Realistic (R) is the hands-on theme in Holland’s RIASEC model—tools, materials, machines, outdoors, and practical systems. If R ranks high in your code, you often prefer building, fixing, or operating things over pure desk work.
What Realistic (R) means
People with a strong Realistic interest usually like concrete results: something that works, runs, or is built. They may enjoy labs with equipment, shops, field sites, or technical operations—not only “blue-collar” jobs. Engineers and technicians often score R alongside Investigative (I).
R is about preference, not skill level. You can like Realistic activities and still be early in training.
